If you like stories about crime, family, and big surprises, MobLand on Paramount+ is a show you should check out. With only nine out of ten episodes out so far, it’s already become one of the most talked-about new series this year. And with good reason! The cast is full of famous actors, including Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan, and the story is packed with action, drama, and LOTS of twists.
MobLand is about two crime families in London, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, who are fighting for control. In the middle of all the trouble is Harry Da Souza (played by Tom Hardy), a fixer who tries to keep things from getting too out of hand. The show is all about loyalty, family, and what happens when people want power more than anything else.
The first episode is meant to introduce all the upcoming main characters. It can feel a little slow. But don’t be fooled. You may need to refresh your memory on a few characters when they show back up in episode two, but then the show is like a spaceship launching into outer space. The boosters have kicked in and maximum velocity just continues episode after episode.
I always try to approach these big-name series with a bit of trepidation. But the acting in this show is top-notch from every single character you encounter. Every episode ends on a cliffhanger. So, while I’m only on episode eight out of ten (I’ll have seen episode nine when this blog goes up), I can only imagine how HUGE the cliffhanger will be when we get to the season’s end!
And be warned. This show is exceptionally violent. If you’re a bit timid about such things, it might not be for your.
But if you like shows with big surprises, strong characters, and brilliant family drama, MobLand is definitely worth a watch. Yes, it’s about mob families. But even more, it is about what lengths people will go to for their family.
Like The Old Man and Slow Horses, I’m sure when the season ends I’ll be doing a deep dive into the dark recesses of the Interwebs to try to discover when Season 2 will begin!
Thanks for making me think Paramount+ might need to be added to to my streaming subscriptions, sigh. I'm looking forward to the new NCIS series with Ziva and Tony.
Thanks for sharing this post. You piqued my curiosity, I will try to see.
