Looking forward to your video. The only way to find out what works and what doesn’t (pillow, mattress and screens) is to go on a maiden voyage. You did great and I thought it was well thought out. You’ll tweet what you need to and it will be more enjoyable the next time. Thanks for sharing.
More power to you, Tim, so great that you investigate what works, try things out and write about it all beautifully. It seems to come naturally to you which is quite an art!
Ha! We 'car camped' a couple of times when I was a kid. These were not planned events, though memorable ones and fodder for my memoirs. Stay safe out there.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Tim. I am preparing my VW Cadi Maxi van for the same use during Australia's summer. Being comfortable sleeping is important!
Tim, I was a bit busy when this came out. It is certainly worthy of comment from a road trip traveler; currently, getting ready for 30+ days and traveling to several states. Your car camping story is timely.
Once upon a time, my family of three car camped. We had a camp kit, always stocked and ready to go. It included kitchen essentials, first aid, bathroom things, rope for closeline, marshmallow sticks, and much more; one Rubbermaid tub. We had tents, sleeping bags, and foam pads. Sometimes, some fishing gear; always golf clubs. The ice chest is nothing to speak of at this point; old technology by today's standards.
In retirement, I'm a slow room service at the Hyatt car camper. Frankly, the body is not up to the rustic rigors unless it's a cabin with real beds and a bathroom down the hill that can be navigated by flashlight. We still use a similar camp kit. Now we boast a water filter and air treatment system. We also have an ice chest that works by day with in room refrigerators at night. Lastly, the vehicle we have is still a home away from home
I encourage you to continue your car camping stories and challenge you to turn your adventures into road trips. By car, hubby, George, and I have traveled the 48 contiguous states incorporating a comfortable camping lifestyle; probably a bit more glamping. Yet, our 2003 Honda Odessey has 270,000 miles on her and once the new tires are installed today, she's ready to go on this year's camping adventure. May you be boasting of more camping exploits soon, my friend
Once you get a Starlink, you have to go spend a week writing out on BLM land in New Mexico... in the Fall. When you get as far as the Rockies, I could name a couple of favorite camping places.
Looking forward to your video. I followed your process quite well. I find your concept quite interesting. It could be another option when we gather at the Provincial campsite for our family wedding in August.
Though I have been invited to stay in a 5th wheel trailer with my niece and her husband, I thought perhaps if it felt cramped I could sleep in my car. Afterall, I am an introvert who likes her space. Cheers!
I'd never make it the night in central Virginia. Too humid now. But a tent with a fan may work for me. Even better, a hotel room! 😆 I'm a creature of comfort now. Look forward to the video.

I’ve been thinking about this….. thanks for the glimpse into your experience 👍🏻😊☀️

I’m retired. I can’t afford Starlink. 😂
But since you are camping for free on BLM land...
LOL. Touché

I’ve been slackin’ lately so this may have been answered somewhere. What make vehicle were you camping in?
It’s a 2019 VW Tiguan.
